Maical is a member of Jorg Ancrath's group of bandits, commonly called "Brothers".

History[edit | edit source]

Maical is simple-minded and generally doesn't think very much. This might be caused by a trauma, because in one of the brief character descriptions it is said:

Whatever broke Brother Maical left the outside untouched. He looked as solid and as tough and as sour as the rest of them. Until you asked him a question. ---Prince of Thorns, Mark Lawrence

Gemt is his true brother.

Maical always rides on a grey horse, which is said to be more intelligent than the man himself. The horse also draws the head-cart. One of Maical's chores is probably to take the heads off the dead, since he and Gemt do this in chapter 1 of Prince of Thorns.

Recent events[edit | edit source]

Prince of Thorns[edit | edit source]

Maical's brother Gemt is killed by Jorg Ancrath after the burning of Mabberton. Maical takes his head on Jorg's demand and puts it on the head-cart.

He is one of the Brothers who are driven in the marsh by the dead men on the Lich Road. Jorg and Makin save him.

He gets the only serious injury in the fight for Norwood. A soldier stabbed him in the belly, but survives.

King of Thorns[edit | edit source]

In the story arc Four years earlier Maical is killed by a "lucky shot" by an archer from a fort near Remagen. Although Jorg has never showed any affection for Maical, he kills every man in the fort and leaves their heads as a vigil guard.
